Window shutters were initially invented to protect homes from inclement weather long before the use of glass became widespread. However, although glass windows are now very much the norm, interior shutters have remained a popular furnishing choice in homes because they provide several distinct benefits.

In essence, there are three main reasons why residents choose to invest in window shutter products; air circulation, light control, and privacy.

Air circulation
When the louvre blades on window shutters are open, air can circulate freely within a home and provide good ventilation. Furthermore, there is no need to worry about ornaments or decorations getting knocked over as, unlike curtains, there is no flapping material to contend with. In addition, privacy can always be maintained as shutters can be left shut even when the louvers are open.

Light control
The adjustable slats on interior shutters ensure that the amount of light entering a home can be easily regulated and controlled. Indeed, the blades can be angled up or down to allow light to enter a room or be focused away from furniture ...
... or decorations which might be damaged by sunlight. When closed, interior shutter products are able to block out as much light as a normal pair of curtains.

Privacy
Window shutters can easily take care of a resident’s privacy concerns as the slats can be angled to allow light in and keep prying eyes out. When a home is vacant, shutters can be left in this way so that lights, televisions or radios left on can be seen and heard to help create the impression that someone is home. Homes that benefit from a good view might like to consider half-height or café-style shutter products as these provide an uninterrupted view from the top half of the window, while maintaining privacy in the bottom half.
