Most people have never heard of glass reinforced plastic products yet they are all around us. An awful lot of them are used in building projects, so the chances are that you encountering these products on a day-to-day basis.

The term glass reinforced plastic or GRP is another way of saying fibreglass, which is a product most people are familiar with. They also know that fibreglass can be moulded into any shape and is extremely strong.

Because GRP can be made to look like any masonry, it is also being used to make false chimneys. Building a chimney with complex patterns such as Corbel detail or dogtooth patterns is difficult, and is a skilled job. GRP chimneys come complete with all of this complex detail without you having to pay a skilled craftsman to build your chimney. They are light, so can be easily taken to the roof and installed.

As you can imagine, the building industry is coming up with new glass reinforced plastic products all of the time. You can even find manufacturers who are willing to make one-off custom pieces, although you have to pay quite handsomely for this kind of GRP product.
