Attractions In Amritsar - A City Filled With Spirituality

Amritsar, one of the most ancient cities of India, sports some of the most attractive and intriguing tourist locations in the world. Highly regarded when it comes to the Sikh culture, Amritsar offers up close and personal views of their holy practises to all of its charmed visitors.

The Golden Temple or 'Hari Mandir', is one of the most sacred places of the Sikhs. Sikh people from various places come to this pilgrimage center and take a dip in holy tank of the temple which is considered very auspicious.
Jallian Wala Bagh:
Jallian Wala Bagh is noted for the massacre during the British rule in India. Jallian Wala Bagh is located 400 meters north of the Golden Temple. On 13 April 1919, pilgrims gathered there to celebrate the Baisakhi festival, and protest against the British rule. General Dyer was the Lieutenant Governor of the Punjab in 1919, who ordered the British forces to open fire on the people. 379 people died and more than 1200 people were injured in this massacre.

Mata Mandir is located in Rani ka Bagh, where huge number of Hindu devotees comes to visit the temple from far off places Ram Bagh is an exquisite garden named after the founder of the city of Amritsar, Guru Ram Das. There's a museum in the summer palace constructed by the Sikh Maharaja Ranjit Singh. The museum displays weapons of Mughal era and few portraits of the rulers of the Punjab. The museum also exhibits a replica of the diamond 'Kohinoor'.
Ram Thirth is a temple of Hindus. It is believed that here Sita was given shelter by Maharshi Valmiki. When Rama abandoned her she gave birth to the twins Lav- Kush at this place.
Taren Taran is a tank, popular among sikhs and is located 25km south of Amritsar. There's also a temple and a tower built by Ranjit Singh.
