Big industrial companies make use of different types of scales. Markets and groceries only use the standard weighing scales for their products. In order to protect the customers, the government is closely checking the calibration of the weighing scales found in the marketplace. Government regulations assure the consumers that the weight of the product being purchased is in proportion to the price of the product in any business transaction. Because of the high risks of fraud in the marketplace, it is the right of the individual customer to be protected.

Some companies only make use of the ordinary weighing scales for the products that do not weigh so much and can easily be put on the scales. Warehouses of big industries use the heavy duty weighing scales for products and equipment which could not weighed by the ordinary scales. These types of scales are called the floor scales with the worker safety as the main consideration. Being in a position to put the safety of the workers above anything else prevents the risks of on the job accidents. There are heavy loads that cannot really be carried by even a good quantity ...
... of workers that the use of hand lifts or forklifts are encouraged for safety.

In order to help the workers in loading or pushing the heavy equipment in the floor scale, these are built only an inch and a half above the ground. Another precautions for the protection of the workers is the safety rail constructed beside the floor scale. Many accidents have happened because of slippery floors and these have resulted in hospital expenses which the company has to shoulder.

There are floor scales which are created as part of a conveyor system. This can be beneficial though not when the drums or containers have to weighed in an upright position. There are sometimes unlucky incidents when the heavy items topples over the conveyor’s side bars. In order to prevent the drums and containers from rolling over when being filled, manual support should be undertaken. Workers must always be physically and mentally fit for work so as to prevent job related accidents which may result to injury.
