Popularly known as the “Land of Grand Dragon”, Bhutan is a Kingdom in the laps of Himalayas. Travel to Bhutan can be planned by air at the only international airport at Paro, which is the gateway to Bhutan, from Delhi, Kolkata, Kathmandu and Bangkok. After arriving at Paro you will be travelling 55 kms to the national capital Thimphu by road. Some of the important places to visit are the BBS Tower, known for its fascinating views of Thimphu valley, the Changangkha Lhakhang, a fortress like temple and monastic school perched on a ridge above Thimphu, Mini zoo or Takin Preserve - the Takin is the national animal of Bhutan, Anim Dratshang (nunnery) at Drubthob Goemba and the Trashichhodzong, an impressive monastery that houses the Secretariat building, the throne room of His Majesty, the King.
From Thimphu the travel to Gangtey is a dramatic 4 hr drive over the high mountain pass of Dochu la (10,130 ft) and entering the Phobjikha Valley, passing through thick forests and oak and reaching Gangtey. One can visit the village and the Gangtey Gompa (Monastary), the only Nyingmapa monastery in this region. Travel to Bhutan and you will witness the winter home of Black necked crane, who drift from north Tibet. Bhutan Holiday is incomplete without visiting the last major tourist destination Punakha en-route to which you will pass by Wangduephodrang which overlooks confluence of two rivers. Last destination Punakha has scenic valley floor of Mo Chhu valley and the Khamsum Yuelley Namgyal Chorten, a stunning monument recently built by the Queens and consecrated in 1999. A picnic lunch on the banks of the Punak Chhu in the stunning dzong which span the confluence of what are known as the father and Mother Rivers of Bhutan.
