We all live in a society where interaction is a basic necessity without which nothing can be accomplished meaningfully, because most of what we do is to a great extent a team effort. All the food was no longer produced in the vicinity, production was centralized and goods had to be moved over long distance. All this could happen because of the telephone.

As a result of this ability to communicate, the traditional society began to expand vastly. So it is now possible to communicate with the members of the society more frequently and at a fraction of a cost that we paid years before, in spite of all the inflation we see around.

That communications help develop stronger bonds within the society is a foregone conclusion that no one will deny. And the biggest benefit is the way people in the society respond to calamity, and react to doing charitable services when the need of the hour arises. A typical example is the way the internet was put to use to raise millions of dollars in charity for the victims of tsunami not too past in our time. Societies across the world could respond to the double tragedy that Japan faced; the tsunami and a nuclear holocaust. That was possible because of the digital phone and the internet. They help society in a big way.

Having a proper means to communicate also means you get the ability to do charity services on a bigger scale. Those days when all one can do was raise a handful of dollars are gone. You can send an appeal to the whole world if you have a digital telephone and a broadband service. Even big companies with millions of dollars in sales do some kind of charity work to raise money for victims of natural calamities as we saw it happen during the tsunami in Japan. How did all that happen? Plain and simple, the digital revolution of course made it all happen. If you thought that digital phones are only for the rich and famous then you are badly mistaken. Prices of digital phones have dramatically dropped over the years due to the innovative way in which services are delivered to customers across the world. Be it a telephone call you want to make to your beloved son, daughter or spouse, or your parents who live thousands of miles across the pacific, the digital phone is what it is: the forerunner to the social cause.
