Last week a friend of mine invited me to a job fair. His recruitment consultancy has taken a stall. The fair was organized by a leading job portal. It had the spirit of the winter fair, only something more important than the regular merchandise was on offer. It was a career.

I met my friend at the stall. Their stall was ready. I found it to be professionally decorated, with big smart banners, their consultancy logo in a prominent position and they clearly displayed the sectors they worked for and the hot openings.

My friend thanked me for making it there, by that time the candidates started pouring in. After sometime we took a stroll round the stalls. Some of the stalls had a smart, professional appearance with chic poster and gave out pamphlets designed in quality paper with quality material. However, few stalls had only hand written material stuck to the wall, giving the name of the consultancy and few companies they work for. There the volunteers were busy chatting and very few candidates visited those stalls. My friend informed about one such consultancy that it had a nice stall last year. We met one from the web portal on our way. He updated us on the footfalls. He told that it was much higher than the last year because of the promotional activities. He expected even more footfalls the next day!
