Lakshadweep is one of the more spectacular tropical island systems of the world. Its attractiveness lies in its isolation. Many tourists are lured by its peace and tranquility. The beauty of islands covered with coconut trees, with creamy sand as common theme is another enticement. Each island is serenely set in a sea whose waters range in different shades of blue.
Lakshadweep is a group of islands in the Laccadive Sea. It is located two hundred to four hundred and forty kilometers off the coast of Kerala, a south western state of India. Lakshadweep is an archipelago of twelve atolls, three reefs and five submerged banks. There are a total of thirty nine islands and islets. The Lakshadweep lagoons, reefs and banks are very rich in marine species. This rich marine fauna is a delightful feast to the eyes of visitors.

Domestic tourists are brought by ship and the night halt of tourists are arranged such a way that they are boarded from the islands before night. This experiment of day time tourism is found to be quite successful. International tourists are accommodated at Bangaram and are brought by flight from Kochi to Agatti. Although anytime apart from monsoons are suited for Lakshadweep Holidays, the ideal time to visit Lakshadweep islands is between the months of October and April. November to March especially August is the months which attract maximum number of tourists to Lakshadweep. Experienced hands say that best time to enjoy honeymoon is between months of May and September. These are the times water is at its purest best and weather is most pleasant.
Out of the thirty six islands only ten are inhabited. They are Agatti, Amini, Andrott, Bitra, Chetlat, Kadmat, Kalpeni, Kavaratti, Kiltan and Minicoy. You can get to Lakshadweep through sea and air. Four all weather ships M.V. Bharatseema ,M.V Tipusultan, M.V Aminidivi and M.V Minicoy operate between Kochi and the islands. Flights are also operated from Kochi to Agatti Island.
There are many options for water sports activities like scuba diving, wind surfing, snorkeling, surfing, kayaking, canoeing, water skiing, yachting, deep sea fishing, speed boating, glass bottom boat sail, lagoon fishing, water scooter ride and banana boating. An arrangement for having night voyage into sea is a prominent attraction.
There are two resorts in Lakshadweep - one at Bangaram and other at Agatti. Both can be included in package tours to Lakshadweep. Bangarm is a bewitchingly beautiful and uninhabited island.
