A model car can also be called a toy car, as it is a miniature replica of the automobile. Trucks etc. are also put in this category of model cars. What started as mere and humble playthings soon became a collector’s hobby. For example the Dinky Toys (often 1:64 or 1:43), whose manufacture began in 1934, or the much talked about the Match boxcars (often approx. 1:64), of the mid-'50s. The early die-cast model cars had no opening parts. Because demand and by improvements in the production technology, companies began to improve the quality of the toys over time. Now these have opening and moving parts, plastic windows, jewelled headlights, tire assemblies, interiors and anything one can ask for. They are surely the collector’s delight.


While the market of the diecast models spread internationally, there was a great change in the all over manufacturing ideas of these replica cars. While the car market began to spread unprecedentedly, the model cars also underwent mammoth change in their design concepts. The diecast application made the cars looking even more real-life. Soon, the replicas of champion sports car flooded market to match an overwhelming demand. As the years have passed, now the model cars have come up with amazing get ups and speed. These cars now run on battery, spring, and electric. Some miniatures are also equipped with solar power concepts to save energy.
