Emergency Lightbars – An Insight Into What Makes Them Special
Emergency lightbars are popular and special because of an array of features carefully placed together for maximum effectiveness. When you look at light bars, you check for reliability, resilience, operational ease, flashy features and mounting flexibility, to make sure it can be useful in the toughest of conditions. However, there are plenty of things that go behind the scene to provide all these features. Reputed manufacturers successfully provide this through the use of an intuitive design and advanced technology.
A good example of the use of technology is seen in Scan Lock flash patterns which are important for the effectiveness of Emergency lightbars. There are more than 50 built in flash patterns in full length light bars including sequential, random and alternate patterns, double, triple and quad bursts and other combinations. A sleek user interface makes it easy to scan available options and then lock the desired pattern. The interface is easy to use especially with 6-position slide buttons. Push button pattern selection switches are also used in some scenarios. Furthermore, some light bars have ...
... non-volatile memory which stores information about previously used flash patterns as well for reference.
Another use of technology in Emergency lightbars is in the optical advancement of the lights. Light house optics and total internal reflection are used to make sure that the beam travels farther and wider. Thus the range of the beam is enhanced without really sacrificing the coverage. Optic spreading filters and concave reflectors are also used to expand the coverage, given that LEDs provide unidirectional light which needs to be collected and focussed well. For the same reason, light bars also come with beam controls which allow you to vary the beam angle and beam temperature. Higher temperature could affect the functioning of the LEDs which is why it is constantly monitored in some light bars, with automated controls to lower the temperature.
Emergency lightbars are also effective because of the 3600 degree coverage that they provide. Full length light bars come with staggered strobe lights, corner and linear LED modules and split segments, all of which provide lighting in every possible direction. Sometimes, gyratory strobe light heads are also used to enhance the coverage of the lighting. Apart from controlling the angle of the beam it is also possible to vary its colour, through the use of coloured filters in different safety colours. Slide in Fresnel lenses and UV resistant Lexan domse are also part of the equipment.
The efficiency of the Emergency lightbars, to a large extent also owes itself to the mounting flexibility. There are universal brackets, L-shaped brackets, 2-way brackets, clamps, stainless steel straps, mounting clips and screws, suction cups and Velcro straps which can be used in different positions. Height adjustable brackets allow you to alter the angle and height of the light bar for maximum coverage. The aerodynamic styling, achieved by lowering the thickness of the light bars also helps in reducing drag resistance. This is achieved by using smaller diamond mirrors and lenses instead of larger deflectors for enhancing the beam coverage.
