For the aspirants of admissions to various technical colleges in the state of Odisha, there is the provision of Odisha joint entrance exam or OJEE. This is an exam that is conducted every year for admissions in different technical colleges in courses such as MBBS, BDS, BE and BTech, and in pharmacy, agriculture, architecture, and in the masters degrees of MBA, MCA, PGDCM, PGDM, and some MTech courses. These are the various courses in which admissions are possible if the students pass the entrance test of OJEE. The eligibility for the bachelor’s degrees is a pass in the 10+2 exams from any of the boards such as council of higher secondary education, ICS or CBSE. The subjects that remains common for all the bachelor’s courses are physics, chemistry and the optional of mathematics or biology, depending on which course the students is opting for.

All the technical institutes with the above courses are required to admit the students from these institutes, but a few seats are also reserved for the students from entrance tests at all India level. With such prospects in front of the students, they are taking up the entrance ...
... exams after their 10+2 or the respective bachelor’s courses. This is an opportunity for the students to build a prospective career for their future and is a means to ensure that they pursue a technical course after their schooling. Almost every state has its own entrance exam for admissions into different courses, and so does the state of Odisha. Students from this state need to take advantage of the situation by appearing in the OJEE because of the reasons as discussed below.

State admissions – Since the Odisha joint entrance exam is perhaps the only means to get entry into the various technical courses in the state, students should take it on a serious note. Although there are seats available for the students from outside the state, but it is of the range of 15% in the different colleges under the government of Odisha. Those students, who wish to stay back in their own state and pursue the quality education in technical subjects, the OJEE gives them a golden opportunity to select the colleges of their choice. This allows them to remain closer to their home and also pursue different courses in the context of their home state. Since this exam is a means to study in the top colleges of the state, many students are seen to be interested for it.

The wide variety of courses, which are covered with the entrance exam, is an impetus for the students who want to get into a technical course rather than pursue their bachelors in arts, science or commerce from the general colleges. Students who are interested can take admissions in a wide range of subjects namely MBBS, BDS, B Arch, B Tech, B Pharm, as well as in masters programs of MBA and MCA and other related streams.

With the above benefits working for the benefits of the students, the single entrance exam for a variety of subjects is another advantage. But, this advantage is for both the students and the conducting authority. Since there is one exam in OJEE, the students are not required to appear in different exams for different courses or colleges and the authorities are not required to conduct separate exams, thereby saving precious time and logistics.
