When we talk about a near miss we will describe how close things came to being a disaster. And the closer they came the more people will gasp at the thought of how easily things could have been much worse. Of course it is nice to recount about a near miss as an anecdote all through your life, but while the incident is taking place your would have been in your mouth. And if in your case things turned out fine after all for many others they do not. And the lesson that teaches us is that it pays to be prepared. That is because if through a timely effort of us which does not take much doing at all, a bad hit turns into a near miss then our timely effort was well worth it.

Take for example one of the very common mishaps you will have seen. A car driver slams the brakes and the driver of the car following is unable to stop in time and hits the rear of the car that stopped or slowed suddenly. Now you would have also seen near misses for such incidents and let us consider what could have been the difference between the near miss and the mishap.

And the stand out reason would be that the driver of the car following realized ...
... too late that the car ahead was slowing fast in the event of a mishap. In the event of a near miss the realization would have been just in time. Now though some drivers maybe casual about their driving and may simply not have been paying attention but most drivers are quite careful and the problem would be the information of the car ahead slowing down did not reach them in time. The tail lights may not have been enough. And a third brake light would have been of help since they would see that a fraction of a second earlier. And since every inch counts that would have made the difference. A third brake light with its high mount position is more visible and improves the safety of your drive.
