People opt for online business or you can say it ecommerce nowadays so there is a huge increase in demand for magento development. With magento customization you can just work out magic with customer’s website that showcases products, business or brand. If you want to get magento development then you might get it for affordable prices from many experienced and skilled magento developers.
Magento developers find so many difficulties while using import functionality that is built in Magento so this article is for them. After observing so many inquiries about this issue at magento enterprise support desk we decided to write something that would help magento developers to solve it out and understand it better to use magento’s import profile. Initially let’s see how to create an import file; it includes the entire data that we need to bring into magento. In orders to get the correct values and files it is recommended to export a product, i.e. a simple product or configurable product, through the Admin and it could be done through “System > Import/export - > Profiles”.
You might use ...
... couple of default “export profiles” which depends on which data you wish to export while configuring magento in out-of-the-box. Depending on data you need to export, there are options for products, categories, stock, customers, etc. If you run the profile a new window or tab will be opened that shows you the progress of the export profile, please see the below example for it.
In your running Magento instance the export file will be save in /var/export folder. Please see the below screenshot that will display a sample of the export file created while running the “Export all products” profile and by filtering or sorting only the simple products:
You need to edit the file and add the relevant information that you wish to import as the template is already ready to work with. Let’s come to the most important part of this process that people often miss while saving the import file thus most of the issues or problems are caused. The import file should be in UTF-8 encoding which ensures that the file is readable and also processed by Magento. While other than it there are many other options like Microsoft Excel, OpenOfficeCalc, Apple Numbers and GNU for encoding the file in the same format. Additionally you must set the PHP memory limit with a value for meeting magento system requirements.
Once you are finished with the completion of updating the file and have checked that the memory limit is meeting the requirements then it is the time to run the import profile in the Admin back office under ‘System -> Import/Export -> Profiles’. When we are using “Import All Products” then we are supposed to upload the file and click “Save and continue editing” so your file will be uploaded into the folder /var/import in the server. After finishing the task of saving you are supposed to upload the file from dropdown list and then run the profile as shown below:
We are done with the successful import of data into the Magento.
