Do you think that the anti-acne drug, roaccutane, is the dream drug you've been wishing for? Think again. While roaccutane could in fact help you get rid of acne, the price to pay for taking the drug might just be too high. Aside from being expensive literally, another price you might end up paying when you buy roaccutane, are the severe roaccutane side-effects it can cause.

Roaccutane can cause birth defects, severe skin peeling, joint pains and aches, liver issues, and serious mental and psychological problems, and this is just the tip of the iceberg. A complete list includes: Risk of spontaneous abortion - that's why this wonder drug is strictly not advisable to be taken by pregnant or expecting mothers. So if you are planning on this drug treatment, better be sure that you are not currently pregnant because this is very harmful for the baby or fetus; Benign intracranial hypertension which must be referred to a neurologist; Corneal opacity; Elevation of high density lipoproteins and elevation of cholesterol levels; Diabetes; Inflammatory bowel syndrome; Hyper pigmentation; Hair thinning and alopecia; ...
... Dry skin - it's suppose to rid the pores of oil but sometimes dryness is just too much as if the facial skin pores oil glands totally stops producing oil; Eczema; Photosensitivity; Too much sweating; Nail dystrophy; Lethargy; Back pain along with joint and bone problems as well; Epilepsy; Headaches - may be manageable unless you already have a history of headache related problems like migraine; Skin fragility; Nosebleeds; Dry mouth and nose; Sore, cracked and sensitive lips - may be managed by using lip balms, petroleum jelly or chapstick; Conjunctivitis; Blurred vision;Nausea; Irritability; and Decreased concentration.

Among these side-effects, one of the most controversial and talked about is that Roaccutane may cause depression, mental and psychological problems and suicide. Although there have been no solid evidence linking Roaccutane to cause such grave consequences, there have been some reported cases of teenagers taking roaccutane spiralling downwards into depression and committing suicide. Doctors and experts don't deny that severe acne among teenagers may in fact cause depression, but they said that pointing the finger solely on Roaccutane is just too much since with the number of people taking the drug, only on rare cases did it result in depression and suicide attempts, which may have been caused by a number of different factors aside from taking the drug. Although the pharmaceutical company producing the drug denies Roaccutane is to blame for any deaths or serious mental problems, since 1998 the company has been obliged to include a warning on the packaging that "it may cause depression, psychotic symptoms and rarely suicide attempts".,

There is no question that Roaccutane is in fact very effective as a medication in treating very severe acne. It has actually become the last resort of most people with acne who tried everything else and ended up with the same skin problems. With the correct dosage, prescription and supervised medication, Roaccutane will most likely clear out your skin acne, but are you ready to pay for such a high price in exchange for beautiful skin? Think again.
