Christmas is fast approaching and I am sure that lots of people have a new LCD TV at the top of their list. Research has shown that Christmas, the Olympics or the World Cup are peak times for the purchase of a new TV set. It is a time when you want to ditch the old set with its adequate but in truth inadequate quality of picture and sound. Many families who already have a flat screen TV purchased a few years ago are looking to invest if the latest HD technology.

If you are one of these people then there are a few things you need to do in preparation. First of all there is the size of the new TV, take care not to purchase something which will be too big for your room. You will not be surprised to learn that there are web sites devoted to helping people to work out the optimal size of set for the dimensions of your room. So get measuring.

Next just where are you going to place this new TV when it arrives? Presumably one of the reasons for looking for a new set is that you want not only better quality TV, but also better use of your room. It is well worth considering mounting your TV on the wall. The new ...
... slimmer sets are designed to be a piece of furniture, not just an electrical appliance; they look at their best when fixed to a wall. There is also no doubt that your viewing experience is greatly enhanced when looking up at a set, rather than looking down. Just think of cinema. Also if you want to play computer games on your TV then you must have it mounted on the wall for best effect.

You have options here. You can mount the TV on brackets which are flat to the wall this suits some rooms, but is rather inflexible. An alternative is to use brackets which tilt or swivel, or do both. You now have many more options on where you place the set and you have the opportunity to adjust the position as you see fit. If it is sunny, tilt it away from the sun. If there are 20 friends into watch the game then adjust accordingly.

Finally if your preferred option is to utilise a corner then consider a cantilever bracket which will allow you to move the TV out of the space for viewing and then you simply fold the set back neatly out of the way. The look of your room will certainly benefit from this type of wall mounting.

So there we have it. Do some simple work beforehand and you can settle down to great viewing on your new TV set.
