Difference Between Diamond Appraisal And Diamond Certification
Diamonds are wonderful possessions, which are dazzling gracefully and beautifully. Every diamond creation is unique, each with exceptional characteristics that establish its worth, rarity, and splendor. How is a diamond measured? How can one be sure that the diamond being purchased is worth it? There are two ways to evaluate a diamond: appraisal and certification.
Diamond Appraisal
Appraisal is done by an expert gemologist or jeweler. The diamond is inspected whether it is mounted, loose or as part of a jewelry piece. It is given a projected monetary value based on its features and condition. The gemologist’s education, trainings and experiences should be checked to make sure that reliable information is given.
A diamond appraisal is a document used for personal information, for re-selling or for insurance purposes. However, it doesn’t give too much information on the gem’s intricate quality or its worth as compared to other kinds. The stated given is simply a rough estimate since intricate details of the diamonds aren’t checked.
Because there is a fluctuation of monetary values, the gem’s ...
... value may also vary after a period of time. It is therefore advisable to have the items appraised preferably every two years. To those who are new to the process, only polished one’s are for appraisal and certification. In addition, an appraisal should never be used as a replacement for a certificate.
Diamond Certification
A diamond certification is an in-depth, precise, and complex document. It is released by a laboratory specializing in the analysis of loose diamonds. Highly trained gemologists do this by rating and listing every important characteristic that the gem possesses. There are the 4C’s which are the basis of certification: cut, color, clarity and carat weight.
A diamond certificate can be used over a period of time since the diamond’s qualities do not change unless they are damage or modified. Advanced technology and techniques are used separately by every personnel specializing in each aspect. For instance, there is a separate professional to study the color while another is to analyze the clarity.
Independent Gemologist
The gemologist should be unbiased, meaning, he or she must not be affiliated with any jewelry vendor. An independent professional will see to it that there isn’t any clash of interest so an honest evaluation is given. Aside from credentials and for references, affiliation with the most trusted organizations will also ensure the credibility of the diamond certification and appraisal.
