bad breath Introduction
Study has shown that self-evaluation of bad breath isn't easy because of preconceived notions of how bad we think it should be, sometimes a person has a medical problem that causes them to have bad breath and they are completely unaware of the aroma in their mouth or the medical problem. It can negatively affect the individual's, social and business relationships, leading to poor self-esteem and elevated stress.
Finding yourself in a close chat with someone and becoming suddenly conscious that the person you are talking to has terrible smelling breath can almost make someone feel nauseous to continue the dialogue and it's almost impossible not to make a facial expression that show's disgust.
The appalling aroma brings out an almost uncontrolled response. It's a very difficult situation to deal with and most people want to simply get away from the appalling stink as quickly as possible. bad breath is especially awful for others to deal with but it's important that is dealt with on all levels both personally and as a friend, relative or associate of an individual with the problem.
...
... Responsibility
First of all, everybody has a commitment to take good care of their teeth and perform good oral hygiene that will help prevent bad breath. It's a common courtesy to make sure that others do not have to suffer with an individual's lack of personal care. People who know that they have a problem with bad breath should be informed the fact and take care of the problem to the best of their ability. If they cannot handle the problem on their own they should ask for the professional help of the dentist and doctor.
Let Them Know
When an individual is faced with speaking or interacting with another individual who has foul breath it is important to deal with the situation rather than get away from it. . Even though this may be a difficult conversation to initiate it is important.
One easy way to deal with the situation is to offer the individual a piece of gum or a mint and gently tell them that they may need to see a gp to discover what their problem is. Or a person can bring up the subject of foul breath and chat about its seriousness and then offer the mint or gum. This should help most people understand they have a problem. Some people will require a very direct statement telling them they have bad breath and need to do something about it. All though this is a hard thing to do it's something that needs to be done.
