When several roads join together to become one road as can happen some times then the traffic needs to be managed very well, otherwise the situation can become very messy. Specially if there is fast moving traffic and there are bursts of groups of cars coming from various roads apparently at random. If such a situation is to be managed the traffic will be slowed down a lot and each car will be carefully guided along the way. The solution will work but in terms of the loss of speed it will be quite inefficient. Fast moving cars will slow down to a crawl as they merge and move away.

If the timing of the bursts of the group of cars from each road could be coordinated, with the signals in the area cars would not need to slow down and each burst of group of cars would be able to pass without slowing down or risking a mishap.

Now consider the gases leaving the several cylinders of a cars engine. They need to get together into a single pipe which will take them to the catalytic converter. For this there is a device called an exhaust header which does this job. And this is where matters can be improved by opting ...
... for an aftermarket exhaust header. The good exhaust headers manage the gases better so that the gases are sequentially led into the single pipe instead of them all reaching the start of the single pipe at the same time. It also has smooth bends so that the exhaust gases are not slowed down while going through a bend in the piping. By doing this the gases are able to make a quick exit and the back pressure is reduced. You will feel this as your car's engine being able to deliver power with lesser effort.

You can also improve things when the exhaust gases leave the catalytic converter and head for the silencer on the way out into the atmosphere. You can do that by opting for a cat back exhaust.
