Munnar, situated where the three mountain streams Mudtrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala meet, is a picturesque hill station in Kerala . It is located in the Idukki district and was once a summer getaway in South India for British Government. At an altitude of 6000 ft above sea level, it enjoys pleasant weather throughout the year. Its hills, greenery and tea plantations make it a popular tourist spot.
Anaimudi peak is considered the highest peak in Southern India and is popular for trekking and camping and Echo point is another favourite attraction at Munnar, as it is said that you can hear your echo three times. Located about 20 km from here, is a town called Kundala which is known for its Golf Course. Besides the beautiful kinds of flowers found at Munnar, the rare flower Neelakurunji which blossoms once every twelve years is located at Kundala. The tea industry is big here and employs majority of the population of Munnar, although people are also involved in tourism as Munnar is a popular tourist spot. Mattupetty is popular for its lake and dam which make a wonderful spot for picnics ...
... because of its view of tea plantations and hills. Mattupetty is also known for the varieties of cattle found here and has eleven cattle sheds, three of which are accessible to tourists.
Eravikulam National Park and Rajamala popular as a destination for anyone who wants to experience the wildlife in Kerala, Rajamala wildlife sanctuary being the home of the Nilgiri Tahr, a rare mountain goat. Munnar is famous for the flowers which still survive in the national parks and forests. Most of the native plants of Munnar, however, have vanished because of the development of tea plantations. One can still catch a glimpse of some of the rare flowers like Neelakurinji which are native to Munnar at the national parks, sanctuaries and forests around the hill resort, along with endangered wildlife such as the Nilgiri wood pigeon, Nilgiri Tahr and the Gaur.
