THE CHEERFUL LAND OF INDIA
Chandigarh, a union territory of India, is perhaps, the only state which serves as a capital of two states, Haryana and Punjab. The name translates as the ‘ Fort of Chandi’. Chandi is a goddess of the Hindus. It is the first planned city of India and is known internationally for its architecture and urban design. The city has projects designed by architects such as Le Corbusier, and Albert Mayer.
The city tops the list of Indian State Territories with the highest per capita income in the country. Located in the fringes of the Shivalik range at 30° 44' 14 N latitude and 76° 47' 14 E longitude. The area falls under the Indo-Gangetic Plain a few miles south of the Shiwalik Hills and between two seasonal hill torrents, the Sukhna Choe and the Patiali Rao. The land is a flat, fertile tract of alluvial soils.the temperature is balanced in nature.
Chandigarh city boosts of several beautiful gardens which are a treat to the eye. The famous Rose and Rock garden of the city are the foremost destinations for tourists. The city is also a destination for thousands of devotees of Hindu ...
... and Sikh religions. The city’s pollution-free air, short distances, the wide tree lined boulevards and avenues, lakes contribute to making Chandigarh a charming place for residents and visitors.

Chandigarh is the best-planned city in India, with architecture which is world-renowned, and a quality of life, which is unparalleled. As the capital of the states of Punjab and Haryana, Chandigarh indeed is a prestigious city. The face of modern India, Chandigarh, is the manifestation of a dream that Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru envisaged and Le Corbusier executed.
Serenity and a city are two diametrically opposite concepts, which however, lie in the 'City Beautiful'. Chandigarh is a rare epitome of modernization co-existing with nature's preservation. It is here that the trees and plants are as much a part of the construction plans as the buildings and the roads. India’s first planned city. is a rich and prosperous city rightly known for its cleanliness. More than other pastimes the shopping here in fact is never ending as the phulkari’s , jhooti’s and other craft items are mind-blowing in nature.
The ideal time to visit Chandigarh is between mid August and November. The weather is moderate and the summers are hot but, the invasion of monsoon maybe a pleasant surprise. By air it is well connected to the northern cities. By rail, the Shatabdi Express is always an economical option for Indians. But, the best means to travel to Chandigarh is considered the road.
