The followers of Islam are divided into two broad divisions-Shia and Sunni. Most of the Delhi Muslims come under the Sunni group. The Sunni Muslim also known as Sunnites or Sunnis strictly believes in the actions and sayings of Prophet. The Muslims in Delhi belong to various castes like Kunjra, Malik, Pathan, Ansari, Syed, Dhobi, Shaikhzada, Churihara and Khanzada. The Muslim Matrimony in Delhi goes in accordance with the rituals and customs mentioned in the holy book. The Muslim wedding rituals starts several days before the actual day of marriage. The main matrimonial ceremony of the Muslims is known as Nikaah. According to custom, the bride and the groom has to sign a contract of marriage known as Nikaahnama. The marriage contract is signed in presence of witnesses, which are usually father of the bride and the groom. A qazi presides of the entire Nikaah ceremony. The ‘nikaahnama’ also mentions the amount of dowry that the groom promises to give the bride.
Muslim Matrimony functions in Delhi are a grand one. The Muslim bride generally wears traditional Indian attire, which is a lehenga. She also complements her bridal look with gold jewelry and glass bangles. The groom on the wedding day wears traditional wedding sherwani.
