Champix is a type of tablet that can be used by people who are hoping to quit smoking. The tablets have been available since 2006, meaning that they are still relatively new but they have so far had good success. The Champix tablets are designed to reducing your craving for cigarettes, which is one of the key aims of giving up smoking. This then helps to counteract the addiction to nicotine in order to assist you in giving up for good.

So, how does Champix work? Effectively, it takes the place of nicotine in your body and makes it harder for nicotine to work when you do smoke. This means you are less likely to crave cigarettes as it won’t be as enjoyable when you do. It has been reported that taking Champix can double your chances of quitting smoking when the tablet is compared to other methods of giving up, including prescription alternatives and nicotine replacement. This means that if you want to give up permanently, Champix could be a good type of tablet for you to try.

As you might expect, it takes some time for the ...
... tablets to work for good. You will need to take the tablets for at least 12 weeks and possibly for up to 24, depending on you need and how easy you find the process of quitting smoking. You need to take Champix twice a day as part of your quitting regime. However, it is recommended that when you start taking the tablets in the first instance, you build up the dose you are taking slowly so that your body can have a chance to get used to the changes. For this reason, there are starter packs of Champix available for people who are just embarking on giving up cigarettes.

This means that when you start taking the tablets, you should take 0.5mg once a day. You do this for three days and then take the same amount twice a day for the following four days. After this, you move onto 1mg twice a day for eleven weeks. However, if you find you are not tolerating the tablets especially well, you can stick to taking 0.5mg of Champix for each dose. The programme is designed to last for 12 weeks but you can repeat it a second time if you need to.

Before you start taking Champix it is worth being informed about the possible side effects associated with this type of tablet. You may not experience any side effects while taking it, but it helps to know what to look out for just in case. For instance, some people experience symptoms such as a dry mouth and changes in their appetite, as well as abnormal dreams and changes to sleep patterns. You should also watch out for symptoms including headaches and drowsiness.

Another side effect that some people have experienced following stopping taking Champix is insomnia. This can happen for a few days after you finish the course of tablets and can also be combined with depression. This isn’t especially common but it can be disconcerting if it happens to you and so it can be a good idea to seek support if you are worried or experiencing feelings of depression.

Before you are given Champix, you will need to take a medical questionnaire to ensure you are suitable for it. For instance, if you suffer from certain medical conditions then it might not be the right option for you and so another course of treatment might be better for your needs. However, Champix has helped many people to quit smoking and so it is certainly one course of action worth considering if you are planning to ditch the cigarettes.
