Many builders and architects are very much ignorant about the fact that many sustainable building designs can qualify for the EPACT 179D tax deductions. As per the Energy Policy Act of 2006, EPAct §179D is meant for providing tax deduction of up to $1.80 per square foot for designs. It can reduce the total energy and power cost by 50% or more when it is compared to an ASHRAE 90.1-2001 reference building. The IRS started to allow the architecture firm in charge of any building’s design, which can claim this kind of deduction for certain energy-efficient attributes in public schools and universities along with the government and municipal buildings.

The Energy Policy Act of 2005 (EPACT 179D) was enacted to create immediate potential tax savings for the building owners or architects and engineers, depending on the use of energy efficient improvements. Section 179D showcases the requirements for a maximum potential tax deduction of up to $1.80 per square foot of used spaces. When we take energy tax savers into consideration, then we should also know how to use the tax law for making building energy equipment investments ...
... more profitable. As per the first green tax firm, we need our clients to achieve federal tax incentives, which are aimed at making energy efficient investment as economically possible. The maximum deduction of $1.80/sq.ft comprises of three partial deductions up to $0.62/sq.ft for HVAC, lighting or building envelope. It means that if our design cannot meet 50% energy savings, then it could still quality for a partial deduction. In that case, it is to mention that apart from commercial buildings, other EPACT beneficiary classes are the designers for government building projects including engineers, architects, lighting designers, HVAC systems designers etc.

Legislation has essentially broadened the number of taxpayers eligible to get benefit from the Research and Development (R&D) Tax credit. Different companies involved in improvement, development or refinement of products, formulas, processes and computer software may qualify. The R & D tax credit is found to be a federal tax incentive, which is designed to promote innovation. It allows any company to receive tax credit for the expenses incurred for research and development, which can lower the tax obligation and increase funds for future innovation.
Initially, a labor based incentive, the R & D Tax credit is applicable for the activities undertaken to establish a new, improved and more reliable products, formulas and processes like,

• Testing or establishing new materials or products
• Testing new concepts
• Developing new or enhanced formulations
• Improving existing products
