Gangtok the capital of Sikkim is a bustling little hill station alluring tourists from all over the world with its breathtaking scenery and also the much hyped adventure activities. Gangtok although a small town it occupies a significant place in the must visit list of adventure junkies. Adventure sports offered in the region is a different experience altogether owing to increased risk factor in the mountainous terrain.

Being a major tourist attraction, there are many tourists willing to visit the region however they only have a faint idea about the ways to get to Gangtok. For those troubled souls here’s a little assistance for a smooth journey to Gangtok.

Gangtok being located in a hilly terrain it does not have the best infrastructure and as there is an absence of a local railway station and also an airport. However the region is pretty well connected by the roadways with buses and local cabs operating regularly to and from this region.

The best possible ways for a traveler to get to Gangtok is to fly to the nearest airport in Bagdogra which is 124 km away, with regular flights to and from major Indian ...
... cities like Kolkata, Delhi, Lucknow etc and from there board a bus or hire a cab to Gangtok.

The two nearest railway stations connecting Gangtok to the rest of India is Siliguri (114km) and New Jalpaiguri (125 km). For tourist travelling on a budget train journey is the best way to travel to the region as it offers a comfortable and pleasant ride. After landing at any of the above stations tourists can easily avail of the bus or cab services available just outside the stations. In case of cabs you can share a cab for an economical way of travelling.

For tourist who can afford to splurge there is another very exciting and also a faster way of getting to Gangtok that is by a Helicopter. Sikkim Tourism Development Corporation operates regular helicopter services from Bagdogra Airport to Gangtok which takes around 30 minutes. This premier service is available at 11 am from Gangtok and 2pm from Bagdogra at a cost of Rs 1500 per person.

So choose your mode of transport and enjoy a smooth journey to Gangtok.
