How Have Home Phones Changed Over The Years?

There was a time when a home phone was a rarity. This article delves into the history of the home phone and how we have got used to the various changes and advances in this area.
It seems hard today to imagine a time when phones did not exist. But there was such a time and getting a message to someone you knew back then would have taken far longer than it does now. There were no phones to rely on so you had to send letters or even send someone on a horse to get help if it was needed in a hurry.
Even when phones did make their way into society not everyone could afford one to begin with. Over time they became more accessible and more popular though, and we started to rely on them to get in touch with other people who had them.
We’ve come a very long way from those days to the phones we have now, such as the BT Home Hub phone for example. This phone is connected to the BT Home Hub 2 and as such it is connected to a hub that also controls your television and internet services. Just imagine having the opportunity to speak to someone who lived many years ago to tell them about this. Apart from having no idea ...
... about the internet or about television, they would find it amazing that such high tech phones existed today!
Another thing that has happened to our phones is that they have got smaller. They have become far more convenient to use and the BT Home Hub Phone and others like it are very different in shape from the old style phones we used to have. In addition, regardless of whether you use a phone with the BT Home Hub 2 or not, you will know that many home phones are today cordless in nature. This is far easier than using the old corded phones because you have far more freedom in taking a call or indeed making one. You can wander around and do different things while you are talking, and instead of standing in the hall or being confined to one place, you can move around and get comfortable.
So where does this leave us? Can you imagine how the future of the telephone will develop from here? With smaller cordless phones at our disposal, it makes you wonder what the next development will be. Video phones would be the next logical progression, but even though some of these are already available they have yet to catch on. Perhaps this is because we can see and talk to people on computers, provided we have the right software installed and we have a webcam too.
In any event it is interesting to look back in history and see how telephones have changed the way we live. It is certainly easier to keep in touch now than ever before, thanks to the phone.
