According to data survey, there are 50 to 70 million Americans are suffering sleep deprivation. Many people know little about sleep, they may take the wrong sleep ideas as right ones. Today I would like to talk about seven common sleep myths to you.

Myth one-Watching TV is a good way to fall asleep. Artificial light from televisions—and especially from computer and smart phone screens—may suppress production of melatonin, a sleep-inducing hormone triggered by darkness. In addition, the light from TV or computer may also influence our circadian rhythms. TV is stimulating and can interfere with falling asleep.

Myth two-Everyone needs eight sleep hours. We believe that if people want to take a good and enough sleep, they must sleep eight hours. Actually, everyone has different sleep needs. A good sleep rely on whether you sleep very well instead of sleep hours.

Myth three-Taking a nap is a waste of time. Many people think just take a nap for only 10 or 20 minutes is a waste of time, in fact, after taking naps, people function better and do certain cognitive tasks quicker. Napping can also help us train ...
... ourselves to fall asleep quicker. One thing that you must keep in mind is napping longer than an hour or after 3 p.m. may make it more difficult for you to fall asleep at night.

Myth four-Snoring means you sleep well. Snoring is a common phenomenon most of us may sleep with snoring and most people think that snoring means you sleep very well and make a sweet dreams. However, evidence is growing that snoring on a regular basis can make you sleepy during the day and more susceptible to diabetes and heart disease.

Myth five-Exercise will affect people's sleep quality. Late night exercise may not be affecting sleep as much as we would think expect you do strength exercise before going to bed. But actually, people who exercised before bed tended to sleep better and fall asleep more quickly.

Myth six-Older people need less sleep. When people are old, they spend less time in the deep, restful stages of sleep and are more easily awakened. So they don't need less sleep.

Myth seven-Alcohol will help you sleep well. Because alcohol is a sedative, drinking wine, beer or other alcoholic beverages may help you fall asleep, but as little as two drinks can cause you to sleep less restfully and wake up more frequently.

People should pay more attention on these seven sleep myths. If you stick to a wrong sleep habit or lifestyle may destroy your health. I suggest people know more information about sleep to find best sleep aids.
