Great Monuments Of India, A Must See

Taj Mahal, Agra
Built on the banks of the Yamuna, it is a mausoleum built of pure white marble. A UNESCO world heritage site, the tomb, minarets, side pishtaqs (doors) and the majestic gateway all adorn this marvelous piece of architecture. A high boundary wall having broad octagonal pavilions encloses the whole structure. The calligraphies and paintings on the external structure provide the finest examples of mughal style architecture.
Qutab Minar, Delhi
Located in the heart of the capital, this monument is an example of the advanced nature of ancient architecture. Made of red and buff sandstone, it goes upto a height of 73 meters, making it the tallest tower in India. The whole complex is dotted with numerous inscriptions in Arabic and urdu.Adding to the mystery is a near 800 year old iron pillar in the backyard which despite being in the open doesn’t have a single shade of rust!!
Elephant Caves, Mumbai

Sun temple, Konark
As the name suggests this temple is all about the power of the surya devta or the sun god. A huge chariot drawn by seven horses and twelve pairs of beautifully carved wheels reflect the significance which ancient civilizations placed on the power of the sun. Beautifully and geometrically carved out figures of animals and humans give this place a distinctive look and feel
Churches, Goa
Goa is the only Indian state which was under the Portuguese and hence the Goan landscape is dotted with Portuguese style churches and convents. Some of the more famous churches include se cathedral, chapel of Saint Catherine, church of Saint Augustine and church of saint Francis of Assisi. These churches are host beautiful paintings, floral designs and statues which make them a must visit.
Ajanta and Ellora caves, Aurangabad
These caves truly reflect the all accommodating nature of the ancient civilization of India. These caves contain well proportioned decorated paintings and sculptures which are widely regarded as master pieces of Buddhist religious art.
