There are quite a lot ways to become a permanent inhabitant of the United States. To become one, you have to get a Green Card first. The green card holder can live or work in the United States. Some can become a green card holder by getting sponsors from a family member of theirs or from an employer. Some other can become permanent residents through humanitarian programs.
Getting sponsors from a family member who is a citizen in the U.S is the best way to acquire a green card.
People who come from different countries to work in the U.S try to get permanent resident status by applying for a green card. They would have come to the U.S with a temporary visa.
When trying to get a green card by obtaining sponsor from your employer, there are 3 steps to be kept in mind. They are

It allows you to work for that particular employer in the U.S. The main qualification to get a H1B visa is that the visa holder should have done under graduation at least. The visa in its initial stage will allow you to stay in the U.S for 3 years and then you can extend it for another 3 years and not more than that. Each year the number of applications to get H1B visa increases and within that 65,000 applicants will be chosen in a random manner.
Things that H1B visa holder can do:
He/she can invest in the stock market.
He/she can purchase lottery tickets and also can buy or sell properties in the U.S.
The visa is subject to approval. The applicant should have passport. They have to fill the form and appear for an interview at the nearest US consulate in their country.
