Foods And Their Effect On Acne

Almost anyone who has ever suffered from acne has also desperately tried to cure that acne. Efforts to cure acne usually come with a high price tag attached. Enter any drug or discount store and you'll quickly see countless acne products lining store shelves each with its own unique promise to cure acne. Sometimes the secret ingredient to cure acne is hidden within your very own kitchen.
Food can help cure acne. The problem is you don't hear about it that much. The pharmaceutical companies don't want you to know about how food helps cure acne neither do your dermatologists or the big companies that manufacture over-the-counter acne products. We're not advocating you abandon acne products that have helped clear your skin, but achieving clear skin is definitely worth examining and changing your diet.
What to Eat, What to Avoid
Food helps cure acne, and what you eat is often just as important as what you don't eat. Some helpful foods to incorporate into your diet to cure acne include garlic, green tea, and lots of fruits and vegetables. Green tea is high in antioxidants and helps the body eliminate waste products, ...
... and garlic has antibacterial properties, which help to prevent infections from developing within clogged pores.
As a general rule of thumb, it's important to include as many fresh, raw fruits and vegetables into your diet as possible, and buy organic whenever your budget permits. Fruits and vegetables are high in vitamins and minerals, and eating them will decrease the amount of prepackaged foods you eat. Prepackaged foods are usually high in sodium and sugar, and sugar suppresses the immune system, which can aggravate skin.
It's also important to avoid certain foods that can contribute to acne. Dairy including milk, cheese, and ice cream, can aggravate acne. Milk from any cow, regardless of whether the milk is labeled organic still contains hormones; all breast milk contains naturally occurring hormones. Exposure to these hormones can exacerbate acne.
Don't Look to Your Doctor for Support
The bottom line is that when you're interested in improving your skin's appearance through diet and want to cure acne by eating certain foods, you most likely will not find support within the conventional medical community. You know your body better than anyone, so pay attention to how you react to certain foods. If you notice a certain food makes your acne worse, eliminate that food for at least two weeks and see if you notice a difference. Clear skin is worth the effort.
