Investigation Launched Into Missing Royal Mail Parcels

Bosses at the organisation received a number of complaints, one of which centred on a package containing identity documents and education certificates that failed to make it to its destination. Saif Khan registered his concern after the parcel he sent via special delivery did not arrive at the Indian consulate in Birmingham.

He subsequently received a letter from firm informing him that his items had been "misappropriated while in the Royal Mail network" and an investigation was underway. He was offered £500 in compensation but he noted his main priority is receiving the parcel, which he fears may be used by identity thieves.

The 31-year-old remarked: "It's not just a case of claiming compensation. ...
... The parcel contains documents dating back to when I started school. These are documents from colleges in India and are not easily replaceable. To get the originals back I would have to travel to India.

"I made copies but if I needed to apply for a new job, I need the originals. I'm concerned about what has happened to them, everything I have ever had in terms of ID is in there."

Meanwhile, a spokesman for Royal Mail noted that one of the company's employees has resigned and the investigation is continuing.

He added: "We apologise to customers who have been affected by this and would urge anyone with questions regarding their deliveries to contact Royal Mail Customer Services."
