The Importance Of Being Properly Equipped

PerformanceCars has been the premier destination for new and used cars in Niagara since 1964. In that time, we’ve built an outstanding reputation for quality, commitment and vehicle service in St. Catharines, where our nine dealerships are centrally located. From Acura to Mercedes-Benz and beyond, we have close relationships with the world’s greatest automotive manufacturers. And we build close relationships with our guests as well. At PerformanceCars we’re honored to have long-lasting business in Niagara Falls, Grimsby, Welland and, well, the entire Niagara Region. Our polite and knowledgeable staff keeps people coming back – an accomplishment we’re very proud of.
With this in mind, we’d like to offer our guests a little insight on something that Ontarians should be familiar with this time of year: snow tires.
And whether you drive a new car or a used car, if you live in the Niagara Region snow tires are a wise investment. Here’s why:
A common misconception is that all-seasons tires are just as effective in winter conditions as snow tires. While ...
... all-seasons can hold up just fine in milder weather, in Niagara we typically see quite a bit of lake-effect snow. In our regional conditions, the right tire can make the difference between stopping safely and sliding.
So how do you know if the tires you’re looking at are winter ready? Properly certified winter tires are marked with an illustration of a snowflake inside a mountain. This symbol means that the tire has met industry standards set in place by both Rubber Manufacturer’s Association and Rubber Association of Canada. A certified snow tire will feature a specially designed tread, intended to prevent snow and ice build-up, and the tire’s rubber composition will be able to withstand colder weather without hardening – the softer the rubber, the more traction it provides.
Some individuals believe that owning a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle eliminates the need for properly certified snow tires. But at PerformanceCars we feel it’s important to consider winter tires around this time of year, even if you have 4WD. Snow tires will assist in handling, just as a 4WD transmission will, but they also dramatically improve stopping distances – a promise 4WD can’t make.
At PerformanceCars we value our guests and care about their safety. Visit any one of our dealerships or website for more information on purchasing snow tires this year. Don’t take any chances with your new or vehicle used car in St. Catharines this winter. Niagara has been known to have some icy road conditions, so we want our guests to be prepared!
If you are a PerformanceCars guest, please like our Facebook Page and follow us on Twitter. We’d love to hear from you – and we’re always looking to make new friends in the Niagara Region.
