Known as Devbhoomi (The Land of Gods) all across the world, Uttarakhand is a true paradise on Earth. Chilling snow, fresh air, pure water, small vibrant villages, beautiful but intricate mountains, simple people, this is what distinguishes Nainital from the rest of the world. A hub of pilgrims, Uttarakhand has several sites of religious significance which has earned its nickname ‘Devbhoomi’. For a small state, Uttarakhand packs an incredible amount. The British built Hill stations and decorated them with colonial era type houses, churches, hotels, boarding schools in the foothills of Himalayas to flee away from the scorching heat in the capital and some other Indian states.

The erstwhile boarding schools still exist in towns of Mussoorie and Nainital. Uttarakhand is a beautiful little state with numerous tiny but exquisitely awe-inspiring towns that attract a large number of tourists entire year from all over the world. The Hill stations of Uttarakhand are popular among the domestic as well as the international visitors for the magnificent mountains, ravishing ridges, gorgeous gorges, singing rivers, sparkling, ...
... serene lakes, and their scenic beauty. This state is a stunningly beautiful state and it’s divided into two regions: Garhwal and Kumaon, both of which have distinct culture, language and way of living.

Uttarakhand tourism can be categorized into three categories which are Pilgrimage tourism, Adventure tourism, Nature and wildlife tourism. Uttarakhand is absolute bliss, sheer masterpiece of the creator. It comprises various little states which are already well known among the domestic tourists for the effervescent landscape and among the international tourists for their high peaks and ridges that allow them to indulge in adventure sports such as skiing, trekking, river rafting, paragliding, mountaineering and many more.

Top visited Hill stations of Uttarakhand are Nainital, Mussoorie, Almora, kausani, Bhimtal, Ranikhet, Rishikesh, Dehra Dun etc. Naini/Naina Jheel/Lake is one of the most attractive spots in Nainital. The Guano hills in Pangot are excellent walks through forests of thick oak, Bamboo and Deodar. Few Nainital tour packages comprise trips to nearby mountains and surrounding hill stations which give the tourists added delight. Nanda Devi, second highest mountain in India, is regarded as the patron-goddess of the Uttarakhand Himalaya.

The ancient temples at Jageshwar are the most prominent while amongst other religious places; the most visited are Badrinath, Kedarnath, Haridwar, Gangotri River, Yamuotri River, Hemkund and the Kumbh Mela. Uttarakhand is, however, a place of pilgrimage not only for the hindus. Tibetan Buddhism has also made its presence felt with the recent reconstruction of Mindroling Monastery and its Buddha Stupa, touted as the world’s highest, located in the southwest of Dehra Dun.
Uttarakhand also exceeds our expectations in area of Flora and Fauna. It has half a dozen National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries. Most popular of them is the Jim Corbett National park, named after Jim Corbett, the hunter who is known for slaying a large number of Man eating Leopards and Tigers in India, mostly in the villages of Garhwal and Kumaon, here tourists can venture out in the park and spot wild animals on the Safari that the park organizes.

Truly said to be the abode of the lords, Uttarakhand is indeed the land of divinity. A natural wonder, Uttarakhand is the epitome of natural havens all over the world; it’s definitely worth a visit on every adventurer, naturalist or just another wanderer’s list.
