The beautiful town of Ooty, also referred to as Ootacamund, is a popular hill station situated in the Nilgiri District of Tamil Nadu. It is also popularly called as ‘the queen of hill stations’ as it is the most popular hill station of not only Tamil Nadu but of entire India. The whole region of Ooty was under the rule of East India Company during the 18th century. The famous warrior Tipu Sultan is said to be the first king that extended his border into this region by constructing a hideout cave like structure.
Earlier, this place used to be a tribal land, which was occupied by the ‘todas’ and some other tribes. The place where these tribes used to exist is now known as ‘the old Ooty’. Currently, the economy of this town is mainly based on its tourism and agriculture. The most significant feature of this hill station is its immensely beautiful surroundings. These surroundings comprise mesmerizing landscapes, mountains, and valleys along with many species of flowers.
To capture this immense beauty of Ooty, many movies have also been filmed here. Ooty is also known as a major centre of medicine manufacturing. ...
... It is also an ideal place to see the beauty of Nilgiri Hills or Blue Mountains more closely. Major portion of the land of Ooty is covered by eucalyptus trees and kurunji flowers that bloom here every twelve years. These flowers also form a major attraction for the tourists during the year they bloom.
The area where these flowers bloom is also one of the best places to travel in Ooty due to its location amidst the Blue Mountains. Along with this place, there are many other significant places to visit and explore in the hill station of Ooty. Its sightseeing attractions provide a perfect mix of man-made and natural sightseeing attractions. These attractions include several mountain peaks, lakes, viewpoints, national parks, museums, dams, and much more.
The best places to travel in Ooty include Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, Tribal Museum, Doddabetta Peak, Pykara, Pine forest, Wenlock Downs, Kamaraj Sagar Dam, Mudumalai National Park, Mukurthi National Park, Needle hill viewpoint, Parsons Valley Reservoir, Emerald Lake, Avalanche Lake, Porthimund Lake, Upper Bhavani, and many more.
