Lakshdweep – A Vacation On A Remote Island

Lakshdweep formerly known as Laccadive, Minicoy and Amindivi Islands is the smallest Union territory of India. Owing to its isolation and scenic appeal along with a variety of water sports Lakshdweep has garnered much reputation for itself as a popular tourist attraction of India. Lakshdweep is an archipelago comprising of twelve islands, three reefs and five submerged banks. The most popular islands of the region are the Kadmat Island and also Kavaratti Island.
Lakshdweep literally meaning one hundred thousand islands is the least populated and also the only coral islands. Located approximately 440 kms from Kochi, the region is the perfect destination to holiday in some peace and serenity with loads of water sports to enjoy and also loads of exploration to do. There are also several resorts hotels in Lakshdweep across all budget groups – budget and luxury to suit every traveler pocket. However, the region being a protected island, it is not overtly commercialized so as to not disturb the delicate eco balance of the region and as such the hotels in Lakshdweep are not plenty and as such advance bookings in hotel is necessary ...
... to secure a room for yourself, in fact it is one of the major pre conditions for foreigners traveling to the region.
An important thing before traveling to this remote island of India is to obtain necessary permission without which this beautiful island is beyond limits. In fact foreign nationals are in fact given limited access permission, restricted to the islands of Agatti, Bangaram and Kadmat.
All the islands of the region are spectacular least to say, adorned with coral reef, sandy beaches, clear water and much more, in other words the perfect elements for an idyllic vacation. Many of the islands are promoted as a hub for water sports activity, offering activities like diving, snorkeling etc.
Owing to the region’s bourgeoning reputation as a popular tourist destination, Lakshdweep offers good connectivity to several regions of India primarily by means of ships and cruises that regularly ply in the waters of the region. Other than that tourists can also opt for the aerial route and board a flight from Kochi to the Agatti airstrip. Besides that there are also the services of Helicopter and boats available from Agatti Island to Bangaram and Kadmat.
Although the regional markets have not much to offer they are worth a visit, even if it is just to get a sense of the life and pulse of the region. However, you can still purchase coconut powder and oil from the factory situated at Kadmat Island or fish pickles and other small souvenirs.
