Any driver could get a speeding ticket. Speed awareness can be tricky these days on the busy modern roads. There are so many things you have to look out for that sometimes your speed can creep up without you realising.

With so many cars on the road you can feel harassed when you drive around. You may want to do 30mph but others on the road are going much faster and you feel like you have to keep up. Remember that just because you get a speeding ticket does not mean you are a bad driver.

Driver History

If more than one person drives your car then you need to keep a rough record of who was driving each day. If the car is caught speeding by a camera then you may not find out until a few weeks later. This means you need to know who was responsible for the speeding ticket.

Prosecution

If legal action is going to be taken against you for speeding then you will be sent a Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP). This will be sent to you within two days of you getting the speeding ticket. You must complete and return this within 28 days providing all the necessary information. This will include ...
... the name of the driver.

* Depending on the situation the driver will then receive a summons to court or a Fixed Penalty Notice.
* You should only receive a summons if the speeding offence was deemed serious.
* Most speeding tickets will result in a Fixed Penalty Notice. For this if you admit guilt you will have to pay a fine of £60 and 3 points will be added to your licence.
* If you do not admit guilt then the case will go to court. Remember if the case does go to court then you will need compelling evidence to prove your innocence. For this it is a good idea to get advice from a lawyer.
* In some cases drivers may be given the choice of attending a Speed Awareness Course as a substitute to Fixed Penalty Notice. This is common in such cases as drivers being caught doing 38mph in a 30mph zone.

Any driver can be at risk from getting a speeding ticket. If this situation does occur then you may want to consider getting professional legal advice on what steps to take next.
