Ivory Coast In Africa

Ivory Coast in Africa was long one of the more stable and prosperous countries in Africa. In recent years, but the country was marked by conflicts between migrant workers and the "true" Ivorians, and between Christians and Muslims. Geography and environment
Ivory Coast is located in the Gulf of Guinea and has a coastline of 480 kilometers. The country has abundant natural resources that make it possible to perform extensive agriculture. Ivory Coast has long been a major exporter of tropical timber, and is today one of the countries in the world to deforest fastest. Deforestation has led to most of the rain forest in the south of the country is now nedhugget. At the end of the eighties was planting and protection measures (actions etc.) started. But the destruction continued in the northern part of the country, which has been outside the control of the government since 2002. It is also where the largest forest areas today. History
Probably it was Ghana Empire decisions that led to the 1200 large immigrant populations from east to today's Ivory Coast. Immigration from the north, around the same time, meant that Islam ...
... gained a foothold in the North. In the south, was established several states that the principal was Agni and Abrong kingdom. Ivory Coast was the French colony in 1893, but resistance to the colonial masters was strong. Only in 1917 did the French put the whole area in itself and administered by the country's independence in 1960. The next thirty years the Ivory Coast was one of Africa's richest countries, mainly as a result of cocoa exports. Large plantations were established and there were more workers especially from Burkina Faso and Mali.
Society and Politics in the Ivory Coast:
Felix Houphouet-Boigny ruled the country from independence until his death in 1993. His party was not allowed until 1990. The political power struggle that followed Houphouet-Boigny’s death, several politicians used nationalism to increase its ownership. This led to tensions between those who described themselves as "true" Ivorians on one side and guest workers and their children on the other side. Nationalism, which is mainly developed in the Christian population, also hit the country's many Muslim residents, who mainly live in the north. Some policymakers worked to limit the rights of Muslim people, which led to widespread protests. The conflict was exacerbated by the economic downturn, times, and in 2002 erupted into civil war. The country was divided in half and the northern part was the government of Muslim rebel forces, while the southern part is controlled by the government.
Economy and Trade in Ivory Coast:
Agriculture is the main industry in the Ivory Coast economy and the country was long the world's largest exporter of coffee and cocoa. About half of the active population working in rural areas, which account for around three-quarters of export earnings. While the South has large plantations run by foreign investors who grow coffee, cocoa and bananas, has been in the north, small farmers who produce corn, cereals (beer or spirits), and peanuts. Because of the conflicts that have taken place in recent years, many foreign workers chose to leave the country. This has had negative consequences for large plantations, now struggling to find workers.
