How to Make Herbal Tea

There are no specific rules about making herbal tea, but there are a couple of things you should know.

The quality of the water plays a huge role in the quality of the tea, and it is usually over looked. Try to use distilled pure water when making your tea.

The water should be brought to a boil in a non-aluminium pan or kettle, once boiled it is ready to begin the tea making process. It is easier to make herbal tea in a pot with a very tight fitting lid if you have one.

The reason for the tight fitting lid, is once the herbs are placed in the freshly boiled water they will begin to release their healing qualities and valuable nutrients and minerals. These valuable nutrients can escape in the steam from the water if you do not place a tight fitting lid on your pot.

Alternatively a tea pot, with either a built in strainer or your own home made tea bag can be used. The teapot must have a tight fitting lid for the same reasons.

You can mix and match your herbs or purchase preblended herbal teas to make your brew. If you are purchasing your own herbs, try to make ...
... sure they are organic, it makes a huge difference to the quality of your tea.

An average guide to use is 3 tablespoons of fresh herb to a pot of tea, steeping for 1 - 2 minutes, or 1 heaping tablespoon of dried herbs.

Once you have steeped your tea for 1-2 minutes, most people discard the herbal ingredients, but you can resuse them 2-4 times! Just steep each pot for 1 - 2 minutes longer than the first!

The same goes for root based teas and tonics such as ginger and ginseng. You can reuse the root up to 4 times. So an expensive piece of ginseng can actually go a long way in brewing many pots of tea.

I hope you found this information useful!
