Phuket is among Thailand's most popular travel destinations. With that in mind, sometimes it can seem to be hard to get away from them all. This is especially true if you are staying in places like Patong Beach, where hotels, restaurants, and shopping places fill the areas within easy reach of its soft white sand and warm waters. True, the place is never boring so if you're looking for action, you are never far away. Nonetheless, it may tire you out too and if you are searching for a quieter beach to relax in, you will have to go out of there. So if you are staying in one of the Patong villas, you should consider hiring a boat to some of the following beaches:

Ton Sai Beach, Railay Peninsula:

While on the mainland, it is isolated by the high limestone cliffs making boats the only way to get there. It's a hub for rock climbers. Even though the beach is not as isolated and off-the-beaten path as it used to be as more backpackers have taken note of the area, you can still avoid that by coming during the quieter months of May-October. Take note, however, that the beach is not as ideal for swimming as the others because ...
... of its rocky nature, especially when it's low tide.

Koh Yao Noi:

While near your holiday villas in Phuket's more packed areas by boat, it hasn't been totally affected by mass development. The island is known due to the fact it won the World Legacy Award for Destination Stewardship in 2002 from Conservation International and National Geographic Traveler magazine due to its eco-friendly homestay program. It is possible to kayak, hike, swim and snorkel while there. Note to would-be visitors: locals here insist in keeping their local culture intact so be respectful! Ways to accomplish this include dressing up more decently, and not drinking outside businesses serving travellers.

Koh Lanta:

The island, while not untouched and undeveloped, is much quieter and less heavily developed than many of its neighbours, such as Phuket and Koh Phi Phi. The place has white sand beaches, cultural-based attractions, and nature-based attractions like caves, forests, marine wildlife (take note, divers!), and orchid farms. You will best appreciate it if you're going straight to it from packed, highly-developed resort areas like Patong or Koh Phi Phi.

Koh Lao Liang:

The island is practically an eco-resort. If you want nature or just a place that most travellers don't visit, this place is for you. There is clear waters where you can snorkel, kayak, and scuba dive. You have white sand where one can sunbathe, relax and read a book all day on. Climbers shouldn't feel out of place here: you've got a lot of limestone cliffs and rock formations where you could rock climb or boulder on. Plus, there is a 30 metre rock-face where you could view marine life from if you feel the desire to do some wildlife watching.

There are more beaches and islands you can take a day trip to via boat from one of the Patong villas you are staying at. Just be sure to conduct some research either online, or by quizzing staff working at or fellow travellers staying in those hotels, resorts, or holiday villas in Phuket when you get there. Enjoy your holiday!
