Iphone – The New Business Smartphone

The popularity of iPhone began in 2007 when it was launched with powerful features like touch navigation, crystal clear display, slick look and feel, strong capabilities to compute and thus the era of smartphones began. Due to the increase in its popularity across the globe, users who have iPhone would want it to work like a business phone as well. With BlackBerry being the first choice for business smartphones, the latest topic of discussion is how iPhone can be used as a business phone. The only question arises that do the present and the future users see iPhone as a business phone.
If we look at the phone and its features from the date of its birth there is bad news for iPhone it has never been considered as a business phone and has always been considered as chic phone. There are many reasons for this which includes issues like applications from third party are not supported, minimal or no exchange support and the phone is mainly a personal information manager. Let us discuss these main issues. Applications by 3rd party developers are not supported iOS. Users are restricted to download applications from app store other ...
... than Apple’s App store as a result of which the business applications cannot be downloaded. The phone stores and manages personal information only as a result of which it cannot be used for team collaboration. As the phone has zero exchange support people are not able to view their business mails, contacts and much more. Apart from these features the phone also has some business friendly features which includes rich safari browser, usage of web 2.0 apps and at the same time the phone is internet friendly. With the help of safari browser people could use web 2.0 apps and the best feature of the phone is that it allows internet access through major network areas which includes the Wi-Fi region as well.
Apple has finally understood the importance of business applications and the usage of such applications and a result of which they started offering exchange support and also came up with an SDK where in the developers can make applications that could be registered on the App store and then approved for the usage by the users.
With the changes Apple doing in its phones, policies and SDKs to make it more user friendly and business friendly at the same time, the only thing that remains important is that whether people would accept this smartphone as a business phone or not. This will be an open in coming few years. For now let us see how the iPhone emerges and at the same time will it be able to replace BlackBerry in the category of Smartphones for Business.
