Hindi Matrimony is commonly referred to wedding taking place in the Indian states of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.

Prayer services to Hindu gods and goddess are common in every Hindi Matrimony. The rituals and customs in Hindi Matrimony start with a puja to Lord Ganesha. It is said that lord Ganesha is the remover of all obstacles. His blessings on the couple will be removing all the obstacles that many come in their married life. The parents of the girl and the boy also sit for puja and seek blessings for their children’s happiness and joy.

There are some common rituals common in Hindi matrimony functions. Engagement ceremony is one of the rituals where the bride and the groom exchange rings. Gifts and sweets are also exchanged between two families. Most of the time, the engagement ceremony is done two-three months before the marriage. Parents and elders of the family also fix the date of marriage with the consultation of the priest.

Another very popular ritual is the Haldi ceremony. The bride is smeared with a paste of turmeric and oil and applied to her hands, face and body. This gives a golden glow to the bride before the marriage. In some communities in Hindi Matrimony, the groom is also smeared with the turmeric paste.

The wedding day rituals in a Hindi Matrimony are the Baraat, the Kanyadaan ceremony, the Saat Phere and Vidaai. Baraat is the groom’s procession to the wedding venue. The groom with its family members goes to the bride’s place. According to custom, the groom has to ride on a horseback to the wedding venue. There are band musicians playing to traditional songs as well as latest chartbusters.

The Kanyadaan ceremony in a Hindi matrimony is the ritual of giving away the bride’s hand to the groom. The bride’s father holds her hand and places it on the groom. The priest chants Vedic mantras and shifting the girl’s responsibility to the groom. The father also asks the groom to take care of her at all times. In the ritual of saat phere, the bride and the groom encircles the holy fire seven times. According to Hindu customs, marriage is the bond of seven lives. Each circle around the holy fire represents one life. The ritual of vidaai is a sad ceremony. It is the farewell time for the bride from her parent’s house. The bride’s leaves for the groom’s house and bids farewell to her friends, siblings and other family members. Hindus believes that after marriage, the house of the groom is now her house and she will treat it her own.
