One of the important pre-wedding rituals is the Jayee Anukolo ceremony. This is the first ritual and marks the start of wedding celebrations. The goddess of the temple is offered marital related things like toe rings, bangles, vermilion and saris. The families seek blessing of the deity for a happy and long married life.

Oriya Hindu communities have distinct wedding customs that differentiates in from other Hindu communities of India. The Barajatri ritual and the Baadua Pani Gadhua rituals are another two important ones. The groom and his family members come to the wedding venue singing and dancing to regional tunes. The marriage procession to the bride’s place is known as Barajatri. The groom on arrival to the venue is welcomes with aarti usually by the mother in law. The Baadua Pani Gadhua ritual happens when the groom’s procession arrives to the wedding venue. The bride’s relatives inform the bride and arrangements for her ceremonial bath are followed. The holy bath is known as Baadua Pani Gadhua.
