Do you like searching online by your mobile phones? Most modern mobile phones are equipped with high technology to help our young people or businessmen search online, and WLAN is one of them.

WLAN stands for wireless local area network, which is the linking of two or more computers without using wires. WLAN is very popular recently because groups from fast food restaurants to libraries offer the Internet over the air for free, and the equipment to set one up in your home or office is increasingly becoming cheaper.

To hook up to the network, you only need to open your laptop and push button to enable the wireless network. WLAN allows mobility and availability, as you can take a device anywhere in the house without plugging in. it is also cheaper and easier to add new devices to a network, as there is no need for any more wires or cables. In other words, WLAN allows users to access network resources from nearly any convenient location within their primary networking environment.

A second advantage is becoming increasingly popular: Hotspots. Instead of having to be constricted to your home wired/wireless Local ...
... Area Network (LAN), you can now enjoy the advantages of the Internet in public places such as lobbies, cafes, universities, hotels, airports, and many other common areas.

The third advantages of WLAN is its productivity. Result of researches shows that wireless technologies have a direct impact on productivity. Users connected to a wireless network can maintain a nearly constant affiliation with their desired network as they move from place to place.

The first disadvantage of WLAN is security. Because of space and cost, the "antennas" typically present on wireless networking cards in the end computers are generally relatively poor. It means Wireless networks are less secure than wired networks, both in terms of access and in terms of user information.

The second one is the speed. The speed on most wireless networks is reasonably slow compared to the slowest common wired networks. The more users who log on, the slower their connections will be as the router has to handle more connections.

Lost of signal of WLAN is another disadvantage of WLAN. Wireless network could interference with other wireless networks in the building and interference with other radio signals.

Everything has its two sides. WLAN has its advantages and disadvantages. We have to hope this technology get be enhanced higher than now.
