The Best Ways To Keep In Touch With People Abroad
A lot of us know someone who lives in another country. This article explains all the ways you could use to keep in touch with someone who lives abroad – no matter what country they might be in.
It’s certainly true to say the world has got smaller over the years. In times gone by people hardly moved out of the area they were born and raised in. As travel methods became easier, more accessible and more widespread, people began moving around more. They moved to the cities to find work, they moved to the countryside to find peace and quiet, and eventually some started to move to other countries entirely.
This would have been a rough situation to be in a long time ago. The only real method of communication for most people would have been to send a letter. Even today it takes a few days for a letter to get halfway around the world, so you can see how difficult it must have been to stay in touch in years gone by.
Thankfully things are much easier now. You can still send letters back and forth of course, and sometimes there is nothing better than receiving an actual letter you can keep in order to look back ...
... on it in the future. But don’t let this be the only way you communicate with friends or family members in another country.
For example if you both have access to the internet you can use all manner of ways to keep in touch. Are you both members of the same social networking site? Then contact each other on there, posting short messages for the other to pick up at their convenience. You can also send long emails, knowing that the recipient will receive it immediately – even if it is the middle of the night there!
Another way to get in touch is to make a phone call. This enables you to hear their voice – and sometimes there is no better way to keep in touch than this. BT International Call Rates are competitive and enable you to phone for a long time.
Don’t forget that instant online messaging is another option you can try. If you have access to a webcam you can see each other when you do this. You can either hear each other or simply type messages as well as watching each other! It’s a good way to ensure you stay in touch.
Ideally you should use a combination of all of these ways to keep in touch. When you are in different time zones you can send emails without worrying about disturbing the other person at an inopportune time. But with low BT international call rates you can arrange to make a phone call at an agreed time so you can talk in real time.
One thing is certain though – getting in touch is the best way to make sure you keep up with each other’s news, no matter where you both are.
