Internet Marketing, A Two Step Process
So you have built the perfect website. Now the question becomes, how do you get traffic to it? There are a number of different internet marketing strategies to increase hits to your website but you have to consider you ultimate goal. Often it is to make a sale, get a donation or drive the web user to do something. We call this a conversion. So the internet marketing process is two fold. First it is to get users to your website, second you want them to make a conversion.
There are a number of different ways to drive traffic to your site online:
1. Search engine optimization (SEO. Search engine optimization is the process of improving the visibility of a website or web page via search engines. SEO considers how search engines work, what people search for, the actual search terms typed into search engines and which search engines are preferred by their targeted audience. SEO can have a very high return on investment but it is a process that you must commit to for the long term and it can be costly.
2. Email marketing. Email marketing campaigns are a great way to maintain a relationship with current ...
... customers. It gives you the opportunity to up sell, sell another product or drive repeat business.
3. Social media marketing. Social media marketing is used to create and strengthen relationships with new and current customers. It’s a great vehicle to drive promotions.
4. Media planning and paid advertising. This is a great way to attract new customers on the web. There are a ton of sites out there that you should have a profile on. New improvements to paid online advertising now allow you to choose the target audience you are looking for and monitor the success rate of impressions to click.
Once you begin increasing your sites traffic it is important to monitor where users are going on your site. Site statistics can tell you how users are clicking trough your site, your sites bounce rate (how quickly someone leaves your site after entering it) and, if you have an online shopping cart, your conversion rate. It is important to understand which part of your internet marketing strategy is working. If your sites hits are increasing but you are not seeing conversions you many need to look at your site to determine why customers aren’t making a purchase, contacting you or taking some other action you would like.
Overall it is important to measure every aspect of your internet marketing strategy so when sales are down you can understand why and alter your internet marketing strategy to be successful.
