Kaveri Shankarnama is a festival of Coorg that takes place in mid-October where people throw rice at the Goddess image and thus offer their prayers. It is a festival of farms and carries the connotations of farming field. During this Coorg festival, non-vegetarian food is completely discarded. Kailpodu is another popular Coorg festival and is celebrated in the first week of September. This festival signifies the transplantation of the paddy crop. Another famous festival of Coorg is the Puttari which is a rice harvesting festival and is celebrated in the month of November or December. Uggadi and Shivratri too are celebrated in Coorg. A visit to Coorg during festivals thus allows one to explore the tradition and cultural values of the town and thus experience a journey through culture amidst beautiful nature.
