Here's a quick and easy primer that briefly goes over all the wagers you can place in Roulette. Obviously, some are better than others. Let's get started.

Straight-Up Bet: You can place a wager one any number straight up and it will pay 35 to 1 when it hits. The numbers are 0, 00, and 1-36.

Split Bet: Say you like two number that are next to each other, such as 17 and 20, you can place a wager on the line that connects them. If either one hits, your wager is paid 17 to 1.

Street Bet: Numbers run in streets from top to bottom. If you're looking at a Roulette layout, a street example would be 1, 2, 3 or 25, 26, 27 and so forth. By placing a wager on the bottom of the street, you are betting on all three numbers. If any one of them hits, your wager is paid 11 to 1.

Corner Bet: This is a four number wager. You'd place the chip at the corner where all four numbers, such as 17, 18, 20, and 21, intersect. As with the other multi-number bets, if any of the corner bet numbers comes up, you will be paid 8 to 1.

Five Number Bet: This is also called the sucker's bet. When you make this wager, you're ...
... betting on 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3. The sucker's bet label comes from the diminished payout. You will only be paid 6 to 1, which means the house advantage rises about 50% on this wager. It's not wise to bet it.

Line Bet: Remember our street bet above? Well, this is betting two adjacent streets. Simply place the wager as before, but do so on the common line for the two streets. Now you will have six numbers in play. This bet pays 5 to 1.

Dozens: The layout is split into three dozens (12 number each). Bet any of the dozens and you'll be paid 2 to 1 for each win.

Columns: Just like dozens, except they run horizontal instead of vertical. The bet pays 2 to 1 also.

Color: The famous red or black bet. Pick a color and hope it hits. This bet pays even money.

Odd or Even: Think the number will be odd? Bet it. This bet pays even money.

Low or High: The layout is split into two groups: 1-18 and 19-36. Make a bet where the ball will land and you'll be paid even money if you are right.

Now go enjoy some Roulette!
