Uns Islamic Jewellery: Origin And Inspirations

UNS Fine Crafts, is dedicated to reawakening the artistic legacy of our Muslim forefathers. Throughout history, in various countries, Muslim artists used different mediums to express their love of the Creator, nature around them and the inner workings of their hearts. Today, UNS does this through unique Islamic Jewellery and finely carved Muslim prayer beads as well as pure oil perfumes.
A particularly important era was the Ottoman Empire whose artistic methods are still handed down from master to apprentice. Architecture, miniature painting, carpet weaving and Islamic jewellery traditionally used geometric patterns and themes from nature; to combine this beautiful tradition with modern tastes, UNS provides Islamic Jewellery of prayer beads, necklaces, rings and broaches with a blend of Turkish art and contemporary design.
Muslim prayer beads, also called misbaha or tasbeeh, can be made of various materials including precious gemstones, exotic hardwoods, ivory, horn and bone. UNS often uses exotic wood for its earthy, warm feel and to imbue the senses with the smooth, subtle scents of nature. Traditionally, Islamic ...
... prayer beads are used in the morning or evening while reciting one’s dhikr, or litanies, or after the Islamic prayer. The misbaha tracks set numbers of tasbeeh, to free the mind for worship. Muslim prayer beads are generally made in sets of thirty-three or ninety-nine beads.
Muslims artists traditionally applied geometric patterns, calligraphy and floral motifs to various metals to make Islamic jewellery, reflecting what they saw in themselves, the world and Islam. The Islamic Jewellery offered by UNS is an example of working silver to this purpose using a combination of floral motifs and Arabic calligraphy in the Kuf, Thuluth and Diwani scripts.
A particular piece of interest in the UNS Islamic jewellery collection is the sandal pendant, depicting the original sandal of the Prophet Mohammed (saaw), or na’l al nabi. The simple use of circles and lines creates perfect geometric designs, reflecting order and unity and the possibility of infinite growth as can be found in Islamic prayer and the use of the misbaha for tasbeeh. Consider the honour of wearing the Prophet’s (saaw) sandal, designed with such symmetrical beauty, and the love it would plant and grow in your heart every time your eye rests upon it. That, would be a symbol worth donning above all others, in a safe and revered place as around the neck of a believer.
