Faux Tin Ceiling Tiles Look Just Marvellous And Are Easy To Install!
The beginning of popularity of tin ceilings in the United States of America took place in the mid of the nineteenth century. It happened at time when rich Europeans started to decorate their homes with exquisite decorative plaster ceilings. However, in America, this way of decorating wasn’t considered to be a practical one, despite the attractiveness of plaster ceilings. Thus, European plaster ceilings found their American equivalent in the tin ceiling especially among middle-class population. At that period of time abundant production of tin ceiling tiles was rather easy.
Tins were easy to stamp with the smallest details, not heavy and easy to install. Thus, in many ways this material is better than plaster, making it the preferred material of most Americans. Consequently, the greater number of ceilings in hotels, business establishments and homes were decorated with embossed metal panels in the middle of the nineteenth century.
In the early twentieth century tin ceilings somewhat lost their popularity because of significant changes in people’s tastes. The mankind turned to other sorts of materials. But in ...
... the end of the twentieth century the interest in tin ceilings came back with the renovation of architectural establishments. A great number of companies started producing faux tin and real tin tiles for renovation of old buildings and decoration of the new ones.
But the decorative plaster ceilings which were greatly loved by rich Europeans had some disadvantages for the American people. They were difficult to install because of their weight, and it took much time to produce them. Besides, they were extremely difficult to use to unfinished ceilings. Tin tiles were cheaper to use, in addition to being very suitable for fine-detailed work and easy to install.
The other advantages of tin tiles include also moisture and mildew resistance, perfect sound-absorbency peculiarities, good durability in comparison with plaster or drywall. As for installation, the square panels were light and easy to use, the tin panels used to be nailed into wood.
The peak of popularity of tin ceilings took place in the eighteen nineties, since when a great amount of the tin ornamentation used to be covered with acoustic drop-ceiling tiles or drywall. At that period of time, less ornamentation became more fashionable. But in the twentieth century some people felt nostalgic for the Victorian era in America and they started taking away the coverings with the intention of restoring tin ceilings to their former look. Surprisingly, most tin ceilings turned out to be well preserved and they had withstood the great period of time better than one could expect.
Today, you can find online stores offering a great variety of tin tiles available in traditional designs mostly in order to meet the interest in restoring original tin ceilings, and producing new ones. There’re also custom designs for contemporary architecture, copper, silver, and antiqued finishes to please the America’s nostalgia for the Victorian era.
So, choose the tiles to your taste and make your homes look extremely stunning and terrific!
