It goes without saying that a fire outbreak can be one of the most devastating things that anyone can experience, whether it is in a rural or urban setting. Especially in the height of summer when the ground is dry and devoid of moisture, fire can spread quickly and it can be impossible to fight without the proper equipment. In days gone by the only defence was a chain gang of water buckets, but thankfully today we have a better solution in the name of water pumps, or dedicated fire fighting pumps, that are designed exclusively to help put out fires quickly.

The main thing about water pumps that are primarily fire fighting pumps,is that they are incredibly reliable. They are rated to exceed recommendations so that when you urgently need your water pumps to work, they will be available for use. There’s no point having fire fighting pumps sitting idle for six months only for them to fail when you need them the most. In order to be so reliable, most fire fighting pumps are armed with excellent air filters used to suppress dust from dry ground and even construction sites. Dust can clog up air filters and stop pumps from ...
... running, so having excellent protection from this is something fire fighting pumps need in order to make them ultra-reliable.

Petrol water pumps are most commonly used as fire fighting pumps, but they do come in diesel variants as well. Most are designed to pump large volumes of water at a time, which is handy for clearing flooded areas, as well as providing large amounts of high pressure spraying for fire fighting purposes. It’s not uncommon for fire fighting pumps to generate flows of up to 1800 litres per minute. They can also pump water with sufficient pressure to reach over 70 metres, and can even suck water from an elevated position of over 5 metres in height.

Whilst pumping large amounts of water, water pumps need the ability to cope with water that has solids suspended in it. This is particularly important if the water supply is not filtered, such as a pond, reservoir or lake. Most of these water supplies have small amounts of solids suspended in them which can cause problem with pumps that do not have sufficient protection. Most fire fighting pumps that are available today are built with reliability in mind, because you don’t want your pumps to stop at a critical moment, such as when you’re putting out a rapidly spreading fire. Modern fire fighting pumps have impellors that can easily cope with small solids without risking damage to the pumps themselves.

Water pumps are built with reliability as their priority and are difficult to damage.Lastly, for maximum convenience and safety, fire fighting pumps sometimes come with large wheels already attached. This means they can be quickly wheeled or towed into position. All pumps of this nature are quite heavy, and when speed is critical, it’s helpful to have pumps that are easy to move around.
