Physical security matters. In this modern age, more importance is being put on cyber-security and other “non-tangible” forms of protection. Of course these kinds of security are very important, increasingly so, however one must never forget the need for effective physical security.

The criminal mind is often not very sophisticated. Spur of the moment crimes cost businesses many thousands of pounds every year, and in such cases the only deterrent is one that is obvious and physical. So, barbed wire etc is often the most effective physical barrier.

Barbed wire, for example, is both a psychological barrier and a physical barrier to criminals. Just the mere visage of barbed wire is enough to deter criminals unless their intent is more sinister.
